I know you can get insurance for most anything, if you have an insurable interest and are willing to pay the premiums. It also makes sense that some individuals/entities can't get insurance for some risks. I agree that blacklisting entire industries is unusual though.

So we both learned something today. Good. I try to learn a new thing every day; nice to get it out of the way early.

Interesting (not really) that the industries that are blacklisted are also the industries whose business model is based on economic and social predation, for the most part..

what's disturbing is that this insurance can exist.
it's a way to force those who are harassed into non-disclosure "agreements" (sic) with the alternative being a court appearance in which they'll be harassed yet again and dragged through the mud.

@Stefani Banerian, indeed. It is very much the dark side of risk insurance — the ability to buy insurance against the costs and consequences of your own misbehavior. It's a bit like the story of the man who murders his parents, then throws himself on the mercy of the court as an orphan.

Power structures of all kinds tend to be very inventive in devising ways to sweep problems and poor behavior by their senior members under the carpet and "make them go away". (And when something does come out that can't be made to go away, they tend to be pretty good at finding a scapegoat to throw under the bus.)

You know if sexual harassment claims are so endemic in your industry that you can't get insurance, your industry might have a problem. But it may or may not be the problem you think it is

Let me provide some context. I want you to imagine enshrine the legal profession against sexual harassment claims. Not sexual harassment itself, but claims. I want you to remember what happened to paralyze our entire nation for a couple of weeks during the last Supreme Court nomination.

Remember that the insurers are out to make a profit. Not to promote actual Justice.

I can take this list and I can probably come up with a decent amount of research on which professions are most harassed by certain activists
